LA Vegan Beer Fest 2011 Part 2 (the food)!

Here’s the second portion of my Saturday afternoon at the LA Vegan Beer Festival at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try food from all of the vendors there, but I have had food from three of them (one when I went to the LA Art Walk a couple of weeks back).

Fresh Fries

First: For a post-beer, pre-more food, snack we shared some fries from the Fresh Fries food truck! Unfortunately they didn’t have their full menu rockin’ when we came by, but we were still able to get the delicious Barbie Stinks that are pictured above. It was a basket of fries doused with sweet & tangy BBQ sauce, topped with grilled onions. YUM!
Doomie's Home Cookin'

Second: We went to Doomie’s Home Cookin’ for some inexpensive and delicious food! They had a limited menu for the fest, but their full menu looks insanely good. The three of us tried five of the items they were offering, including: the Gumbo, “beef” taco, Poquito Potito, a corn dog, and a “Chilichanga” (which I did not try).

Their Gumbo was SPOT ON, seriously.. it was my favorite. Could have been a little more chunky, but I was honestly surprised by how good it was.

Beef Taco

Doomie’s “Beef” taco was pretty good, although I was never a huge fan of beef tacos to begin with when I wasn’t vegan. The seasoning and texture were pretty accurate.

Poquito Potito

Above is their “Poquito Potito” which was basically a fried, mashed potato burrito. I don’t know if any of you have ever had pierogies but that was exactly what this tasted like, and to a Polish girl like myself it was muy delicioso.

I wish I had a picture of the corn dog! It was perfect and reminded me of carnivals, and going to the swap meet on Sunday’s with my family. Doomie’s definitely isn’t lying when they say they have home-style cookin’, and I can’t wait to go to their full location once it’s repaired (they had a small fire! :[ )
